So sorry it’s been awhile, I have just struggled finding time to write a post.
A while back I wrote a post about trying to “go granola” or as I like to call it “eating what God gives” and I said I would share some ups and downs of this change in my life.
It has not been easy, I love junk food and soda…..as I write this I just finished a Bojangles Bo Berry biscuit and a Mtn Dew…..I am a work in progress.
This is not the first time I have tried to do this, it is probably the third or forth. I have learned from the past that when I go all or nothing and have no sweets, that I do good for about 2-3 days then I pig out on tons of things that are very bad for me. So this time I am taking it slow and still allowing myself a few guilty pleasures….I mean come on man….I am attempting this when there are peeps staring at me in every store I go in 🙂
My first step is to start having “treats” in moderation. Soooo I say no to cake, I say no to moon pies(I know that is sacrilege right!), I say no to cupcakes….this is not full proof, but it is a really good start and has helped me really cut back. Seriously people, I could go all day and only eat junk food and drink soda.
I also have a weakness for the candy and soda that is in the checkout lines at the grocery store and Wal-Mart. To combat this I try to always pack a waterbottle and a snack (one that i am going to share with you later or a piece of fruit). And if you are like me you little one goes everywhere with you, so I also pack for her. For me personally, this helps resist the candy and soda in the checkout lines, and when my little one asks for something I just give her what I packed. This saves money and saves from eating something so unhealthy for you. Double win :).
I then try to have healthy options on hand at home. It is much easier to grab something healthy when it is a,ready made and portioned out ahead of time. I have 3 snacks I wanted to share with you, they are some favorite snacks of mine that help me combat reaching for a flaming hot doughnut or some sort of other sweet treat. And the best part is they are almost completely all natural ingredients!
The first is so simple! I came up with it so it doesn’t have a name, but I guess it is similar to a trail mix.
-Honey Nut or Regular Cheerios (mine are from the organic section, so made from all natural ingredients)
-Peanuts with as little salt as I can find on them
I do not have exact measurements, you can add as lIttle or as much of each ingredient, depending on what you like more flavor of. I tend to add more raisins, so it is sweeter. I just put them in a bowl, put on the lid, and shake it up to mix them all together. This makes such an awesome snack that is a great blend of sweet and salty and crunchy.
The next one I found on Pinterest and it is called a “No Bake Energy Ball”.

These were the first thing I ever made with Flaxseed and it has a smell, this smell takes some getting used to, but I LOVE these. I did have some texture issues while having to use my hands to mix them up and ball out the ingredients, which is unusual for me(I just had a shiver thinking about it) but I have made 3 batches now and it is getting better. My husband and my little girl won’t go anywhere near them, but I really like them.
The next was also on Pinterest(I know SHOCKER!) It is super simple and very good!
All you do is take a plain rice cake, smear on some all natural peanut butter, then top with slices of banana. Super tasty!
